Accra: Mr. Albert Kofi Owusu, General Manager of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has praised the legacy and leadership of the late Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, highlighting his integrity, excellence, and humility. At a Literary Sunday event held at the forecourt of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to honor the veteran journalist, Mr. Owusu described the former GNA Board Chair as 'a true statesman' and 'a guiding light' in media.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Owusu paid tribute to Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng's affable character and collaborative approach. The Apagyahene of Eti Amanfrom, who passed away in May this year, was praised for his role as Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), where he significantly contributed to protecting press freedom and supporting a strong democratic media landscape. His tenure on the GNA Board was marked by his vast experience in journalism and governance, combined with a warmth and humility that endeared him to all.
The event saw members of the Ghana Association of Writers sharing memories of the veteran journalist, poet, and former GAW President. Prof Esi Sutherland-Addy urged prot©g©s to follow in his footsteps, while Mr. Kabral Blay-Amihere, former NMC Chairman, recalled Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng as a great writer full of ideas. Madam Comfort Asare, a former NMC member, emphasized that his legacy will endure due to his purposeful living.
Dr. Francis Gbormittah, former GAW President, announced plans to revive the association in honor of Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng. The occasion was enlivened by performances from Osei Korankyi, flutist Alabi, and pupils of the Humanity Intellectual Academy and College.
A commemorative book launch is scheduled for 21 September 2025 at GNAT Hall, Accra, ahead of final funeral rites from 2 to 5 October 2025 in Eti Amanfrom, New Tafo-Akyem, Eastern Region. The GNA delegation included Mrs. Beatrice Asamani Savage, Mr. George-Ramsey Benamba, and Mr. Kenneth Sackey.
