According to Ghana News Agency:ccording to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Frank Serebour, President of the GMA, during his address at the opening of the 66th Annual General Conference of the Association, emphasized the independence of the GMA from the Trade Union Congress. He stated that the GMA is not a subset of organised labour and should not be compelled to follow the Congress's directives. Dr. Serebour expressed the association's collective disapproval of illegal mining and its detrimental effects but maintained that the decision to abstain from the strike was made independently and in the best interest of the association and the public.Dr. Serebour further clarified that the decision not to join the strike was a majority decision made by the Council of the GMA on October 3, 2024. He addressed criticisms and internal dissent by affirming the Council's authority in the matter. The premature leak of the Council's decision was condemned by Dr. Serebour, who noted that it led to unnecessary chaos and negative disc ourse.Addressing personal attacks and internal conflicts, Dr. Serebour urged unity and warned against allowing political influences to undermine the association's integrity. He reiterated the importance of maintaining the GMA's autonomy in decision-making processes.The conference, themed 'Fostering Technology, Entrepreneurship and Professionalism in Ghana's Health Sector,' attracted more than 1,000 members to the Volta Regional capital for the event. Dignitaries including the Minister for Health, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, and other key figures in the health sector were present. Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the Running Mate for the New Patriotic Party, was also in attendance, and several distinguished individuals were inducted as Fellows of the Association.
