Accra: The Global Fund, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, has made a significant contribution to the Ghana Prisons Service by donating a Toyota pick-up vehicle. This vehicle is intended to enhance the logistical capabilities of the Prisons Service's Health Directorate, with a focus on controlling HIV, tuberculosis, and other epidemics within the prison system.
According to Ghana News Agency, the vehicle was officially handed over in a ceremony held in Accra. The presentation was made by Dr. Ayisi Addo and Dr. Adusi Poku, who are the Directors of the National AIDS and Tuberculosis Control Programmes. They handed over the keys and necessary documents to Gloria Essandoh, Director of Prisons in charge of Health, who accepted the donation on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service.
In her acceptance remarks, DOP. Essandoh emphasized the commitment of the Prisons Service to using the vehicle effectively in efforts to control AIDS and tuberculosis. She assured the donors that the vehicle would be used judiciously to support health operations aimed at mitigating these diseases within the prison environment.
The presentation event was attended by several key figures, including Assistant Director of Prisons Matilda Nyampong, Superintendent Sam Kofi Opoku, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Stephen Aboagye, and DSP. Kenneth Akama. Also present were officials from the Ghana Health Service and the National AIDS and Tuberculosis Control Programmes, highlighting the collaborative effort between health and correctional services in combating public health challenges.
Following the presentation, DOP. Essandoh passed the vehicle's keys to Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Deputy Director General of Prisons in charge of Finance and Administration, at the Prisons Headquarters, marking an important step in reinforcing the Prisons Service's health initiatives.
