Ghanaian Electronic Importers Encouraged to Liaise with Energy Commission

Takoradi: Ghanaian electronics importers have been advised to liaise with the Energy Commission to ensure the procurement of products that meet approved standards. They are also encouraged to become familiar with the Ghana IEC/ISO standards to promote compliance and avoid legal conflicts.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Hubert Nsoh Zan, the Assistant Manager of Energy Efficiency Regulations at the Energy Commission, provided this advice during a media interview at a workshop in Takoradi. He noted that it is often foreign entities that inquire about the country's directives on appliances, while Ghanaian importers typically reach out only when directed by manufacturers.

He highlighted that Ghana's current energy mix comprises 28 percent hydro, 70 percent thermal, and two percent renewable energy. This composition demands more efficient power usage to reduce costs, enhance environmental safety, and ensure sustainability. The Commission recommends implementing prudent measures across households, industries, and institutions to conserve energy and reduce expenses.

Mr. Richard Donkor, another representative from the Commission, called on the media to amplify issues related to energy efficiency and conservation. He emphasized the importance of adopting energy-efficient behaviors and technologies to save costs and protect the environment.
