Ghana Immigration Service Intercepts Smuggled Cocoa Beans at Ave-Havi Border

Accra: Officers of the Ghana Immigration Service stationed at the Akanu Sector Command, with the support of officers from the Ghana Revenue Authority-Customs Division, have intercepted a truck loaded with smuggled cocoa beans. The truck, with registration number AS 2103 -W, was driven by Ibrahim Fatawu and was apprehended at the Ave-Havi border post en route to Togo.

According to Ghana News Agency, the interception was based on intelligence, and the truck was found carrying 1115 gallons of cocoa beans. A press release issued and signed by Michael Amoako-Atta, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration in charge of Public Relations, detailed the operation. The release stated that the cocoa beans have been handed over to officials of COCOBOD, while the truck has been impounded and the driver is assisting in further investigations.

The Ghana Immigration Service has issued a caution to potential smugglers, emphasizing the negative impact of such activities on Ghana's economy and the resulting loss of revenue for the Government. The service also commended the border community members for their cooperation and support in safeguarding Ghana's borders.
