Ghana Federation of Labour Urges Vigilance Among Public Sector Workers

Accra: The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has urged workers and trade unions within the public sector to remain vigilant in identifying and exposing corruption within the system. Mr. Abraham Koomson, the General Secretary of the GFL, emphasized the crucial role of vigilance during an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Workers Day.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Koomson highlighted the negative impact of workplace crimes on the national economy and the necessity for workers to actively expose such activities. He pointed out that mismanagement within public sector establishments has been detrimental to both employees and the state. Consequently, the GFL supports the government’s initiative to engage private investors as a means to improve these sectors.

Mr. Koomson also addressed the importance of prosecuting individuals involved in criminal activities uncovered by Operation Recover All Looted Assets (ORAL). He emphasized the need for swift investigations and prosecutions to act as a deterrent and restore public confidence.

Furthermore, he called for thorough investigations into allegations regarding the disappearance of over 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) from the Tema Port, urging for the prosecution of those responsible. Mr. Koomson advocated for the establishment of Fast Track High Courts and Tribunals to efficiently address such national issues.

The theme for the 2025 May Day celebration was, ‘Resetting Pay and Working Conditions in Ghana: The Role of Stakeholders’.
