Accra: The National Executive Committee of the Ghana China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA) has extended its congratulations to Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the newly elected Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations Secretariat. Madam Botchwey, who currently serves as Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, achieved this significant milestone over the weekend during the 27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Samoa.According to Ghana News Agency, GHACHIFA praised Madam Botchwey in a statement signed by Dr. Benjamin Anyagre, the General Secretary, highlighting her historic achievement. The statement emphasized that she is only the second woman ever and the first woman from Africa to hold the position of Secretary General in the Commonwealth Secretariat. The association expressed admiration for her work in the foreign affairs ministry and her commitment to international cooperation.The statement also reminisced about a previous encounter with Madam Bo tchwey, where she advised GHACHIFA to uplift the living standards of their Ghanaian members by drawing inspiration from the advanced Chinese experience.
