Accra: The German Government has lauded Ghana for maintaining strong ties with the European nation as the two countries mark half a century of bilateral cooperation. “Germany stands with Ghana – as a partner, a friend, and a country with whom we share not only interests, but also values,” stated Mr. Frederik Landshoeft, the German Ambassador to Ghana, during a media interaction in Accra, Ghana’s capital.
According to Ghana News Agency, Ambassador Landshoeft emphasized the shared commitment of both nations to multilateralism and a rule-based international order within global organizations such as ECOWAS, the European Union, and the United Nations. He highlighted Ghana’s reform momentum, international recognition, and potential for stronger ties as key drivers for accelerated growth in bilateral relations.
The Ambassador also underscored the importance of people-to-people connections beyond politics and economics. On the security front, he mentioned the close cooperation between the German military advisory team and the Ghana Armed Forces at the KAIPTC Signal School, which strengthens regional security and protects citizens from threats.
Over the past 50 years, the partnership has fostered more than 60 university collaborations, facilitated thousands of Ghanaian students studying in Germany, and encouraged vibrant cultural exchanges. The relations have been further reinforced through joint efforts in security, diplomacy, economic cooperation, trade, investment, technology transfer, and human resource development.
Ghana remains a significant trading partner for Germany in West Africa, with German imports from Ghana reaching 241.3 million euros in 2023, as reported by the German Embassy. German exports to Ghana, including machinery, foodstuff, and chemical products, totaled 251.6 million euros during the same period.
Germany maintains a strong presence in Ghana with political foundations like the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, cultural institutions like the Goethe-Institut, and business entities like the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce. Additionally, the German Academic Exchange Service supports over 60 university partnerships between the two nations.
