South tyrol: A 31-year-old mountaineer from Germany has died during a climbing tour in South Tyrol, the Italian mountain rescue service reported on Sunday. The tragic incident occurred as the climber was descending from the summit of the 3,851 metre-high Königspitze peak in the Ortler mountains.According to Ghana News Agency, the German national fell to his death after losing his footing at an altitude of around 3,500 metres. The accident took place shortly after 10:00 am (0800 GMT). His climbing partner, who was present during the incident, suffered a shock but was otherwise unharmed.The mountain rescue service stated that the man's body was flown down to the valley by helicopter, and his climbing partner was also transported by helicopter. The region of South Tyrol, known for its German-speaking population, is a popular destination for German mountaineers. It features challenging peaks like the Ortler, which stands at 3,905 metres, near the Königsspitze.This incident follows another recent tragedy in the region, where a woman from Bavaria fell to her death on Saturday while climbing in Tyrol.
