The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) has engaged first time voters at tertiary institutions in Koforidua, as part of measures to prevent electoral fraud and corruption in general.The first-time voters engagement series dubbed 'Activating First Time Voters' is aimed to empower young people going to vote for the first time to understand the issues of integrity and corruption in elections to prevent electoral fraud.The students were taken through the importance of exercising their franchise through voting, the electoral and voting processes before, during and after the elections.Mr Samuel Harrison Cudjoe, programmes Officer at GACC, said voting was a constitutional right guaranteed to every Ghanaian who is 18 years and above to participate in the process of choosing a leader and must be taken seriously.As first-time voters, he emphasized the need to sensitize them on the voting process and roles of stakeholders to motivate them to make bold and informed decisions critical to a credible election out comes.That, he noted, enhanced peaceful participation, national cohesion and avoided any form of electoral violence which could mar the nations peace and stability.He urged the youth not to allow themselves to be used by any political party to foment trouble in the run up to the December 7, elections, rather advised them to vote based on conviction.Ms Gifty Manteaw, acting New Juaben South Electoral officer who took them through voters' registration, exhibition and responsibilities of voters reminded them of sanctions in violating the electoral codes and conducts.Source: Ghana News Agency
