Ga West Municipal Education Directorate and Talk2Me Foundation Celebrate International Day of the Girl Child

Accra: The Ga West Municipal Education Directorate, in partnership with the Talk2Me Foundation, celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child with a focus on enhancing investment in girls' education, leadership, and protection. The event took place at the Municipal Education Office, under the theme 'The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.'

According to Ghana News Agency, the celebration included a skills exhibition featuring girls from nine educational circuits within the municipality. The participants showcased their creativity through various projects, including paper works, batik, beadwork, cookery, waste-to-art creations, and musical performances. Outstanding participants were awarded certificates and received technical guidance from experts in various fields.

Mr. John Desmond Sowah Nai, the Ga West Municipal Chief Executive, emphasized the assembly's commitment to promoting gender equity and implementing policies to protect girls' rights. He issued a stern warning against perpetrators of abuse and exploitation, stating that strong sanctions would be applied, and reaffirmed that girls' welfare is a central focus of the assembly's developmental goals.

Mr. Victor N. Tawiah, Ga West Municipal Director of Education, praised the girls for their innovation and passion. He highlighted the necessity of creating safe spaces for education and empowerment, asserting that investment in girls is crucial for sustainable national development.

Ms. Ampem Darkowaa Sarfo, CEO of Talk2Me Foundation, spoke about the foundation's dedication to empowering girls through its 3L Model-listen, learn, and lead. This model aims to build girls' confidence, enhance their skills, and prepare them for leadership roles. She also mentioned the foundation's ongoing collaboration with schools and communities to establish safe learning environments.

As the guest speaker, Mrs. Karis E. Senanu Adzosii, Head of Career Guidance and Counselling at SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, Accra, encouraged the girls to pursue personal growth and leadership opportunities. She urged stakeholders to increase investment in education and mentorship initiatives to support girls as agents of change.

The event brought together students, education officials, community leaders, and development partners to celebrate the creativity, resilience, and leadership potential of girls across the municipality.
