Bogor: At least four people were killed and dozens were injured after a building collapsed Sunday morning in Indonesia's West Java province, according to local media. The incident took place during a gathering at a newly-built community hall in Sukamakmur village, Bogor district.
According to Ghana News Agency, the national broadcaster TV One reported that the owner of the hall confirmed the death toll had increased after the local disaster management agency initially reported three fatalities. Hundreds of women, many accompanied by their children, had assembled for a Koran recital at the two-storey hall situated within an Islamic boarding school when the accident occurred.
Bogor district head Rudy Susmanto stated that 84 individuals sustained injuries in the incident, most of which were minor. The building owner, who also manages the school, revealed that construction of the hall began in April and it had been operational for about two months prior to its collapse. The number of attendees at the recital had exceeded the hall's capacity of 150, contributing to the tragedy.
