Fire Service Ladies Association Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

Sekondi-takoradi: The Fire Service Ladies Association (FISLA), a wing of the Western Regional Command, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has marked its 30th anniversary with a breast cancer awareness campaign. The association organized a free screening exercise at its headquarters at Fijai in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. The theme of the event was 'From spark to flames, tracing the growth and progress of FISLA over the past 30 years.'

According to Ghana News Agency, nurses from the Fijai Catholic Hospital educated FISLA members, Fire Assistants, and other participants on breast cancer signs, symptoms, preventive measures, and self-examination techniques. At the end of the educational session, about 70 personnel underwent screening for cancer.

Divisional Officer (DO) II Dorcas Dadzie, FISLA President, speaking during the event, urged women to be courageous and build resilience in male-dominated fields to propel the growth of the country. In addition to the awareness campaign, the Association organized fun games such as ludu, cards, 'oware', musical chairs, a dancing competition, and volleyball with the Prisons Ladies Association.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) II, David Asah Darko, Western Regional GNFS Commander, commended FISLA for organizing the activities to mark their 30th anniversary and encouraged them to continue working hard and contribute their quota to developing the nation.
