Final Batch of Deputy Ministers Set for Vetting by Parliament

Accra: The Appointment Committee of Parliament is scheduled to vet four deputy ministerial nominees on Friday, July 25, 2025, following their nomination by President John Dramani Mahama. The nominees have been selected according to Articles 78(1) and 79(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which allow the President to appoint ministers and deputy ministers with the approval of Parliament.

According to Ghana News Agency, the nominees include Madam Dorcas Affo-Toffey, NDC MP for Jomoro, who has been nominated as Deputy Minister-designate for Transport; Mr. James Gyakye Quayson, NDC MP for Assin North, as Deputy Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs; Mr. Mohammed Adam Sukparu, NDC MP for Sissala West, as Deputy Minister-designate for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations; and Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, NDC MP for Essikado-Ketan, as Deputy Minister-designate for Health.

Mr. Felix Kwaykye Ofosu, Minister in charge of Government Communications, stated on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, that this is the final batch of deputy ministers nominated by the President. The vetting process will evaluate the nominees' qualifications, experience, and vision for their respective ministries, as per a memorandum from the Media Relations Department of Parliament, which was shared with the Ghana News Agency.

President Mahama emphasized that these appointments are vital for establishing a government that is responsive and efficient in delivering key development priorities. The nominations were formally submitted to Parliament by President Mahama through the Speaker, Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

Subsequently, the Speaker referred the nominations to the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Thursday, July 18, 2025, for vetting and reporting to the House. The outcome of the vetting will determine the approval of the nominees, which is part of the government's plan to enhance governance and improve service delivery in critical sectors.
