Farmers Benefit from PFJ Grant Input Distribution in Ledzokuku.

Ledzokuku: Dr Mrs Rachel Mensah, the Ledzokuku Municipal Agric Director, has revealed that 37 farmers in the past year benefitted from the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) grant input distribution aimed at improving agriculture in the municipality. She mentioned that under phase two of the government's flagship programme PFJ, each of the 37 farmers received two bags of 25kg NPK (nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium) fertiliser and one bag of 10kg maize seeds.According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Mensah shared this information during the recently held 40th National Farmers Day celebration in the district. She highlighted that 15 farmers also benefitted from the vulnerable farmers category of the programme, with each receiving three bags of NPK fertiliser. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to support farmers who are most in need and ensure food security in the region. In addition to the PFJ programme, Dr Mensah mentioned that under the Aqua for Food and Jobs programme, 50 farmers in the munici pality were provided with fish tanks, four bags of fish feed each, and 1,050 fingerlings as a start-up for their aquaculture business. This initiative is aimed at diversifying agricultural activities and improving the livelihoods of farmers through aquaculture.Furthermore, Dr Mensah noted that the department has achieved significant milestones, including training farmers on climate-smart agriculture, modern farming techniques, and crop management. These efforts have contributed to a drastic reduction in the occurrence of pests and diseases in the municipality, particularly fall armyworms, which have been a major concern for farmers in recent years. The initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance food production and sustainability in the Ledzokuku municipality.
