Ada: The bereaved family of Terkpehnor Sappor, a 23-year-old commercial motorbike (Okada) rider who was brutally murdered in the Ada East District, has appealed to the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to arrest the perpetrators and deliver justice.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Yomo Korkor Obodai, the grandmother of the deceased, made an emotional appeal through the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ada East, Mr. Kenneth Kabu Kanor, urging authorities to act swiftly. 'I am poor and penniless. I have no one but the state to rely on. Please, help us find those who did this to my grandson,' she cried.
Mr. S.K. Sewornu, who spoke on behalf of the Sewornu and allied families, expressed the family's appreciation to the DCE and his security team for their solidarity during this difficult period. 'We are grateful for the DCE's bold and immediate response. As a family, we are committed to supporting the police, physically and spiritually, in ensuring justice is served,' he stated.
The DCE, who led a high-powered delegation to the bereaved family's residence, extended his condolences and assured them of the assembly's support. 'This is a tragedy that affects all of us. The District Security Committee will leave no stone unturned in assisting the police to get to the bottom of this,' he pledged.
The DCE was accompanied by the Ada Divisional Police Commander, the District Police Commander, the District BNI Officer, the District Fire Officer, the president and executives of the Ada Motorcyclists Association, and other members of the District Security Committee (DISEC).
Reports have it that the late Terkpehnor Sappor, a resident of Big Ada Agorkpo, was hired by unknown individuals under the pretence of transport services to the Angornyah-Adonorkope area about two weeks ago. He was later found dead, and his motorbike and mobile phone could not be seen. The assailants reportedly fled the scene and still remain at large.
The Ada Divisional Police Command has since launched a full-scale investigation into the incident and has appealed to the public to assist with any credible information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators. 'Every little detail matters. If you saw or heard anything suspicious, please come forward,' a police representative said.
Meanwhile, the local Okada community has been thrown into a state of fear and outrage, with many riders calling for better protection and regulation of their work.
