Fact-Space West Africa and CDD-Ghana Empower Journalists to Combat Misinformation.

Tamale: Selected journalists in the northern part of the country have undergone a day's training to enhance their capacity on combating misinformation and disinformation in the context of the upcoming general election. It was also to enhance collaboration amongst various organisations involved in fact-checking and to equip participants to effectively communicate and verify information within their communities.According to Ghana News Agency, the training was organised by Fact-Space West Africa in partnership with the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) with participants drawn from the Northern, Upper East, Upper West, North East, and the Savannah Regions. Mr. Rabiu Alhassan, Executive Director of Fact-Space West Africa, addressed the workshop in Tamale, stressing the importance of rallying media support to relay accurate information and engage with audiences in their local languages.Madam Sharon Willis Brown-Acquah, Programmes Officer in charge of Fact-Checking at CDD-Ghana, highlighted the critical role of fact-checking during elections. She underscored the need to maintain integrity in news reporting, foster public trust, combat misinformation and disinformation, and empower communities. Brown-Acquah urged the media to approach their work free from political, religious, and ethnic affiliations to avoid bias.
