EOCO Grants Shatta Wale GH?10 Million Bail Amidst Lamborghini Investigation

Accra: Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has been granted a bail of GH?10 million with two sureties after being detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in relation to a yellow Lamborghini Urus vehicle.

According to Ghana News Agency, Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., was arrested to support investigations surrounding a 2019 Lamborghini Urus. This vehicle has been identified by the FBI and the US Justice Department as proceeds from a $4 million crime involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving a jail term in the USA.

A statement released by EOCO explained that the investigation is part of a larger probe to uncover possible co-conspirators in the $4 million crime that occurred in the US. The investigation aims to recover the proceeds of the crime, following requests from the FBI and the US Justice Department to track the vehicle and conduct local investigations in Ghana. EOCO identified and seized the vehicle in May this year, finding it in Shatta Wale's possession.

On August 15, 2025, a United States District Court in Kentucky issued an order forfeiting the Lamborghini Urus, authorizing the US Government to take possession of the vehicle in Ghana as restitution. Prior to this, on August 5, 2025, Shatta Wale publicly claimed that he had purchased the car for $150,000 from an unidentified party. This prompted EOCO to invite him for questioning on August 13, 2025, although the meeting was rescheduled to August 20, 2025, at 10 am.

However, Shatta Wale's counsel requested to report at 11 am, and EOCO adjusted their schedule accordingly. Despite this, Shatta Wale's counsel informed EOCO that his client was unavailable, and Shatta Wale arrived at the office around 3 pm, insisting on waiting for his counsel before cooperating. The interrogation finally concluded around 9 pm, with officers leaving the office at 11 pm.

To date, Shatta Wale has been unable to identify the individual from whom he claims to have purchased the Lamborghini, except for suggesting it was someone possibly named 'ZAK' who contacted him via WhatsApp. Furthermore, he lacks any documentation to prove his ownership or purchase of the vehicle, aside from a custom declaration document bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently incarcerated.
