Enlistment and Recruitment into Ghana Armed Forces Not for Sale: Defence Minister

Tema: Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has issued a stern warning against the sale of recruitment slots into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), urging prospective candidates to disregard any requests for payment in exchange for enlistment.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Boamah made this announcement during a media briefing at the Army Recruit Training School (ARTS) in Shai Hills, following his working visit to One Garrison in Tema. He emphasized that any demands for payment in return for recruitment are fraudulent and should be reported to the police. Dr. Boamah stated, "If anyone tells you to pay money to be recruited into the armed forces, you are being deceived because that person can never help you. Instead, report such persons to the police to have them face the law."

He advised potential recruits to seek out genuine advertisements and ensure they meet the necessary criteria before applying. The Minister reiterated that fraudulent activities involving promises of enlistment for money should be promptly reported to law enforcement.

Dr. Boamah also unveiled plans to recruit and train an additional 12,000 personnel at ARTS and the military academy as part of efforts to decentralize the recruitment process across all regions. "We are working to take the recruitment to all the various regions so each will get its fair share, so it does not look like we are only recruiting from one part of the country," he explained.

Addressing the failed recruitment exercise from 2021, which was halted due to a lack of financial clearance, Dr. Boamah noted that the process might be restarted. During his tour of ARTS facilities, he also committed to addressing logistical and infrastructural challenges to enhance training conditions for army recruits.
