Ellembelle NCCE Empowers Women with Anti-Corruption Knowledge

Ellembelle: The Ellembelle District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Western Region has engaged women groups to empower them with practical knowledge on legal frameworks enacted to fight corruption in the country.

According to Ghana News Agency, the engagement held at Nkroful was attended by participants from the Hairdressers and Tailors Association, the Church of Pentecost, Nkroful Youth Association, and market women. It was part of the NCCE's 'Civic Engagements on the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption' project, aiming to equip young people with knowledge on the rule of law, civic rights, and legal frameworks such as the Whistle-blower Act to promote transparency and accountability.

The project is implemented in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft fr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and co-funded by the European Union (EU). Mr. Isaac Manu, an officer of the Ellembelle District Department of Community Development and Social Welfare, explained the Whistle-blower Act, emphasizing its role in empowering citizens to speak against wrongdoing without fear of victimization.

He urged participants to uphold the law, avoid corrupt acts, and become responsible citizens, as their contributions are crucial to sustaining the country's democracy. Mr. Abraham Yankson, a resource person at the event, encouraged the women to be patriotic and respect national values such as discipline, trustworthiness, integrity, and loyalty to ensure national cohesion. He also called on them to advocate for strong leadership and accountability in their communities to facilitate transformation.

Mr. Samuel Aibi, the Ellembelle District Director, NCCE, expressed gratitude to GIZ and the EU for their support in empowering young people to demand accountability and transparency in their communities.
