Effia constituents seek commitments from parliamentary candidates for development

Electorate within the Effia Constituency of the Western Region have sought parliamentary candidates' commitments to bring development to the area when elected to office.They mentioned that issues bothering on sanitation, unemployment, economic hardship, and drainage systems were their pressing concerns that needed attention from any of the candidates that would be given the nod to become the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effia.They said this when the Western Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), organised a town hall meeting, at Effiakuma, to empower them to demand good governance from political leadership in the area.The meeting, second in a series being organised, formed part of the GJA's 'Western Region Manifesto Project,' implemented under the theme: 'Harnessing Digital Journalism for Informed Political Dialogue and Manifesto Scrutiny.'The 10-month project is being implemented with funding support from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), to help empower the elector ate to demand good governance and development in their communities.The town hall meeting provided a platform for residents to voice out their concerns and issues that bothered on their developmental needs for answers from political leadership in the Constituency.Madam Naana Pong, a resident from Effiakuma, complained about the perennial flooding issue in her area, and called for lasting solutions to the problem.Mr Mustapha Ibrahim, another resident, asked the parliamentary candidates to help in the creation of more job opportunities to help improve the living standard of the youth.Mr Kwabena Ewusi, the Effia Constituency New Patriotic Party Communication Officer, who represented the party's parliamentary candidate (PC), responding to some of the issues raised said the PC had crafted strategic policies which would help bring development to the doorsteps of the people.Mr Suleman Anafo, the Effia Constituency NDC Organiser, who also represented of the party's PC, gave the assurance that the PC was comm itted to implementing interventions that helped the electorate to realise the kind of development they desiredOther residents took turns to speak on the developmental gaps within their communities for redress.Source: Ghana News Agency
