Tamale: A total of 80 community volunteers, also known as educators or catalysts, have successfully completed a three-day intensive training workshop aimed at equipping them to spearhead sustainable development initiatives within their communities. The participants, comprising youth groups passionate about community development, were drawn from Sagnarigu, Kumbungu, Savelugu, and Bolgatanga Assemblies in the Northern and Upper East Regions.According to Ghana News Agency, the training, dubbed the 'Ignite Programme,' was organized by EduSpots, a UK and Ghanaian-registered NGO dedicated to creating educational opportunities for underserved communities. The event was held under the theme 'Igniting Community-Led Change through Education' and aimed to prepare participants to collaborate effectively using digital platforms.Ms. Catherine Davison, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of EduSpots, emphasized during the training that the initiative was part of efforts to unite communities in creating a sustainable fut ure through education. She highlighted EduSpots' commitment to training and equipping over 300 community catalysts to foster educational opportunities for more than 10,000 learners across the country, utilizing a network of 50 community-led education spaces, or libraries.Participants received tablets, laptops, and other accessories to utilize the newly developed EduSpot APP. This application serves as a tool for catalysts to connect with each other and access training and educational resources. Mr. Lawrence Boakye Dankwah, Head of Programmes, Education and Research at EduSpots, facilitated the training, focusing on how to leverage pedagogy as a tool to enhance learning within communities.The training also introduced ecosystem clubs tailored to practical science, technology, engineering, mathematics, environmental sustainability, and gender equity. Participants were equipped with basic skills to ensure the safety and well-being of learners under their care.In recognition of their efforts, some catalysts who distinguished themselves in their communities were awarded cash prizes and plaques to encourage their continued service as change agents. Ms. Nimatu Abdul-Rahman, a beneficiary of the program, expressed her gratitude to EduSpots for their investment and pledged to apply her acquired skills to promote positive learning outcomes in her community.
