ECOWAS Court Leaders Meet Nigeria’s Attorney General to Strengthen Judicial Collaboration.

Abuja: A delegation from the ECOWAS Court of Justice, led by its newly elected President, Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves, and Vice-President, Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma, made a courtesy visit to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice of Nigeria, Lateef Fagbemi. This visit marked the formal introduction of the Court's new leadership and underscored the strong partnership between the ECOWAS Court of Justice and Nigeria.According to Ghana News Agency, Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves expressed gratitude for the support Nigeria has extended to the ECOWAS Court over the years. He acknowledged Nigeria's essential role in enabling the Court's operations and enhancing its capacity to uphold justice and the rule of law in the region. The President highlighted the importance of collaboration, noting the challenges the Court faces in implementing its rulings and seeking the Attorney General's assistance to strengthen enforcement across member states.Justice Sengu Moham ed Koroma, Vice-President of the ECOWAS Court, expressed appreciation for Nigeria's consistent representation in cases brought before the Court. He commended Nigeria's commitment to justice and rule of law, noting the exemplary approach of Nigerian legal representation in the Court. He encouraged other member states to emulate Nigeria's dedication to upholding the values of justice and accountability.In response, the Attorney General warmly welcomed the delegation and extended congratulations to the new Court leadership. He reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to supporting the ECOWAS Court and advancing the rule of law in the region. The Attorney General assured the delegation that Nigeria's Ministry of Justice would continue to provide unwavering support to the Court, including honoring its judgments and reinforcing the rule of law.The Attorney General emphasized Nigeria's respect for the Court's decisions and reiterated the Ministry's commitment to ensuring that its legal teams remain actively involved in C ourt proceedings. He assured the delegation that the Ministry is always ready to cooperate with the ECOWAS Court to enhance justice and address any enforcement challenges effectively.
