ECOWAS Court Initiates Staff Training Workshop on Results-Based Management

Abuja: The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, has launched a training workshop focused on Results-Based Management (RBM) for its staff at the ECOWAS Training Centre in Asokoro, Abuja. The workshop aims to improve efficiency, accountability, and performance, running in two sessions from 17 to 26 February 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, the workshop was officially opened by the Chief Registrar of the Court, Dr. Yaouza Ouro-Sama, who spoke on behalf of the Court's President, Hon. Justice Ricardo Cl¡udio Monteiro Gon§alves. The opening also included remarks from Mr. Michael Saraka, Acting Principal Programme Officer (PPO), Planning at the ECOWAS Commission, and a welcome address by Dr. Olalekan Samuel Afolabi, PPO, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation at the ECOWAS Court.

Dr. Ouro-Sama highlighted the importance of Results-Based Management in enhancing the Court's operations. He emphasized the need to transition from activity-based to results-oriented strategies that align with the Court's strategic objectives. He noted that the training would equip staff with necessary tools to improve planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation processes, contributing to the protection of human rights and the advancement of justice in the region.

Mr. Saraka discussed the importance of adopting a results-based approach across ECOWAS institutions, stressing the shift from activity-based programming to results-driven initiatives as vital for regional integration and development. He underscored the necessity for strong monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure effective use of financial resources for tangible benefits to ECOWAS Member States.

Participants in the workshop will learn about key RBM concepts, including ECOWAS strategic orientation, the logical framework approach to project planning and management, evaluation types, evaluation methodologies, and planning and monitoring tools specific to the Court's operations. The training seeks to enhance the Court's institutional capacity by fostering a culture of performance and accountability.

This initiative demonstrates the ECOWAS Court of Justice's commitment to continuous institutional development and improved service delivery, reinforcing its dedication to justice, human rights, and the rule of law within the ECOWAS Community.
