EBID Mourns Victims of Ghana Helicopter Crash

Accra: The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) has expressed grief over the fatal helicopter crash of August 6 that claimed the lives of senior Ghanaian officials and military personnel.

According to Ghana News Agency, in a condolence statement addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EBID, said the tragedy marked 'an irreplaceable loss to Ghana and the West African region.' He noted the Bank's solidarity with the people of Ghana 'during this period of immense sorrow,' and extended sympathies to the bereaved families.

'The untimely passing of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong; Mr. Samuel Aboagye; together with serving officers, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, represents an irreplaceable loss,' the statement stated.

'These dedicated public servants and military personnel served with unwavering commitment to peace, development, and national progress,' EBID noted, adding that their legacy would be remembered across the ECOWAS Community.

'May the bereaved families find solace and strength in the face of tragedy. May their sacrifices inspire continued dedication to the unity and prosperity of Ghana and the ECOWAS Community,' the statement said.

On 6 August 2025, a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9EH helicopter carrying eight officials to an anti-illegal mining event in Obuasi crashed into a forested mountainside in the Ashanti Region, killing all on board.
