Koforidua: The Eastern Regional Women's Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended its gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for nominating Madam Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey as the Eastern Regional Minister nominee.According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Shirley Naana Osei Ampem, the Eastern Regional Women's Organiser, stated that the appointment of a woman as a regional minister enhances women's participation in politics and governance. She emphasized that this move aligns with the NDC's commitment to increasing women's involvement in politics and bridging gender inequality, as highlighted in the Affirmative Action Act, 2024.Madam Awatey, the nominee, brings experience in governance, education, and community development. She previously served as the presiding member of the Yilo Krobo municipal assembly and is currently the Deputy Eastern Regional Women's Organizer for the NDC. Her academic credentials include an MPhil in Leadership from the University of Professional Studies, Accra, and she is pursuing a PhD in Migration at the University of Ghana.The Eastern Regional Minister-designate is one of three women among ten nominees appointed by President Mahama to serve as regional ministers.
