Easter Celebration: Okaikwei Central MP Donates to Christian Council

Accra: Mr. Patrick Boamah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, made a significant contribution on Tuesday in Accra by donating 1000 packs of water and a monetary token to the Christian Council of Ghana in preparation for this year's Easter celebrations.

According to Ghana News Agency, the donation aims to support the Christian Council of Ghana's events scheduled for the Holy Week, which includes activities from Monday to Thursday, conventions on Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Monday. The Week will also feature picnics, fostering a sense of community and celebration among participants.

During the presentation ceremony, Mr. Boamah emphasized the importance of giving and sharing during the Holy Week and Easter festivities. He expressed his desire to reinforce these values through his donation.

Dr. Hilliard Dela Dogbe, Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, expressed gratitude for Mr. Boamah's initiative, referencing scripture to highlight the virtue of giving. He noted that the gesture underscores the importance of community support and kindness during significant religious periods. Dr. Dogbe further stated, "Your selfless act serves as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the impact of individual contributions to the greater good. As the Christian community observes this sacred period, such acts of kindness are appreciated."

Easter, also known as Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a pivotal Christian festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It is a moveable feast, with its date varying each year based on a lunisolar calendar, which combines solar and lunar cycles.

The events leading up to Easter include Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and prayer; Penance beginning on Ash Wednesday; and Holy Week, which features significant observances such as Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Theologically, Easter celebrates Jesus' resurrection, a core tenet of Christian faith, symbolizing victory over death and offering eternal salvation. Symbolically, Easter eggs represent the empty tomb, while the Easter lily represents resurrection in Western Christianity.
