Dwen Chief Urges Government for Potable Water and Basic Educational Facilities

Accra: Nana Adu Yaw Katakyie, the Chief of Dwen, a farming community in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region, has made an earnest appeal to the government for the provision of potable water. The chief highlighted the dire need for basic necessities in the area, which are crucial for the community's well-being.

According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Katakyie has also reached out to wealthy individuals, corporate bodies, and philanthropic organizations, seeking their assistance in constructing a basic school for the community. In an interview at Dwen, near Dormaa-Ahenkro, he expressed his concern over the lack of essential services and infrastructure that are fundamental to the community's growth.

The chief emphasized the need for employment opportunities which he believes will spur socio-economic development in Dwen. He mentioned that the community has managed to gather some funds for the construction of a primary school and two dug wells but requires additional support to complete these projects.

In addition to educational facilities, Nana Katakyie pointed out the absence of a community clinic, library, and recreational center, urging entrepreneurs to establish pharmacy shops to improve the health status of the community. The lack of such facilities forces residents to travel to Dormaa-Ahenkro to access social services, underscoring the need for local development.

Nana Katakyie also noted the community's readiness to provide land to developers for the establishment of more educational facilities, aiming to enhance the living conditions in Dwen. He called for support to rehabilitate the existing primary school, which is in a deplorable state. The chief's appeal underscores a significant gap in infrastructure and services that needs urgent attention for the community's development.
