Wonsan: The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to developing bilateral ties into 'eternal strategic relations' and pledged mutual support.
According to Ghana News Agency, DPRK Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made this pledge during their second strategic dialogue held in the DPRK's eastern coastal city of Wonsan. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the two ministers discussed practical issues necessary to accelerate the development of DPRK-Russia relations.
The dialogue emphasized the intention to implement the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. The statement highlighted the aim to transform the long-standing DPRK-Russia relations into eternal strategic ones, focusing on strategic communication and cooperation to defend state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international justice.
The Russian side expressed firm support for the DPRK's efforts to defend its state security and sovereign rights. The DPRK, in turn, supported Russia's measures to address the Ukrainian conflict and defend its own national interests. Both countries agreed to align their positions on the global situation and counter what they perceive as aggressive moves by hostile forces.
Additionally, DPRK leader Kim Jong Un met with Sergei Lavrov, who visited at the invitation of the DPRK Foreign Ministry, reinforcing the diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
