Director of Presidential Initiatives on Agriculture Tours Nuts for Growth Factory

Tamale: Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness, has toured the Nuts for Growth Ltd, a factory in Duuyin, a suburb of Tamale, to learn about its operations. His visit is part of the government's efforts to support the factory in scaling up its operations and strengthen the country's position in the global shea market, while promoting sustainable agribusiness and empowering rural women.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Nuts for Growth Ltd processes shea nuts into cosmetics and raw shea butter. Dr. Otokunor, after touring the facility, emphasized the factory's role in value addition and women's entrepreneurship. He noted the potential for the factory to operate around the clock and create over 12,000 jobs with the right investment, highlighting the importance of local industries for inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth in Ghana.

Dr. Otokunor expressed satisfaction with the factory's resilience and contribution to the local economy. He encouraged its management to leverage government policies and programs to enhance operations further. He also reiterated the government's commitment to fostering public-private partnerships to achieve sustainable development in the agribusiness sector.

Madam Dora Towiseh, CEO of Nuts for Growth Ltd, noted that the factory had created over 300 jobs and collaborated with more than 81,000 women and youth. She sought government support in the form of working capital and protective policies to ensure raw materials remain within the country for local value addition. She expressed gratitude for the recognition from the Office of the President and underlined the factory's potential to scale up with government assistance to stabilize raw materials supply and safeguard supply chains.
