CPP Expresses Gratitude to Mahama for Reinstatement of National Holidays

Accra: The Convention People's Party (CPP) has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Government for the reinstatement of Republic Day, July 1, and Founder's Day, September 21, as national holidays.

According to Ghana News Agency, the CPP issued a statement on behalf of Nkrumahists worldwide, expressing its sincere thanks to President Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government, and Members of the Ninth Parliament for the enactment that restored these holidays. The statement was made public on Thursday, June 26, 2025, exactly a fortnight after the 76th anniversary of the formation of the CPP at Saltpond by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The statement highlighted the significance of the reinstated holidays, noting that the Party had been given another reason to celebrate. The reinstatement of July 1 as Republic Day and September 21 as Founder's Day honors Dr. Nkrumah's legacy. The statement emphasized the importance of July 1, 1960, when Ghana transitioned from a parliamentary system with a Governor-General to a republic with Dr. Nkrumah as its first president. This day, along with Dr. Nkrumah's birthdate on September 21, 1909, are deemed worthy of celebration and reflection.

The CPP expressed immense gratitude for the restoration of these dates, recognizing their significance in Ghanaian history and the legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
