Court Sentences Unemployed Man for Theft and Unlawful Entry

Accra: has sentenced an unemployed man, Wisdom Amewuame, to three years' imprisonment with hard labour for unlawful entry and the theft of a Sanya branded motorbike with registration number M-22-GR 5310. The court's decision came after Amewuame pleaded guilty and requested leniency.

According to Ghana News Agency, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth-Vincent Kpodo, who prosecuted the case, reminded the Court presided over by Mr. Lambert Keriga of the convict's prior criminal record, noting that he had recently been released from prison for a similar offense. ASP Kpodo urged the Court not to show leniency towards the convict.

The Court ordered that the stolen motorbike be returned to its rightful owner. ASP Kpodo presented the facts of the case, revealing that the complainant, a farmer, and the convict, who was unemployed, lived in different suburbs of Kwamekrom. On December 31, 2024, at approximately 2100 hours, the complainant parked his Sanya motorbike on his corridor and went to bed. The following morning, on January 1, 2025, at around 0530 hours, he discovered that the motorbike had been stolen.

The complainant reported the theft to the Kwamekrom police, which led to an investigation. The police arrested the convict at his hideout in Bodada near Jasikan and successfully retrieved the motorbike. During the investigation, the convict admitted to the offenses in a caution statement to the police.
