Amansie south: The chiefs and people of the Amansie South District in the Ashanti region have made an urgent appeal to the government to address the poor road network in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the call was made by Nana Obeng Mensah Ababio, the chief of Manso Domi-Keniago, during a durbar aimed at raising funds for a Teachers' Quarters project. He labeled the roads as 'death traps' and stressed the need for immediate government intervention for the safe and efficient movement of residents. The poor road conditions have been identified as a significant barrier to socio-economic development, affecting education, healthcare, farming, and trade.
The chief highlighted that the challenging road conditions make it difficult for residents to access essential services and discourage the youth from returning home due to inadequate infrastructure. Furthermore, he emphasized the need for a teacher training college in the area to combat the ongoing shortage of qualified teachers. This institution would not only provide higher education opportunities but also supply more teachers to local schools, thus strengthening the educational foundation of the community.
The durbar, themed 'Building Together, Thriving in Peace,' was attended by traditional leaders, local government officials, teachers, youth, and residents. The event focused on supporting the construction of a Teachers' Quarters to help attract and retain educators in the district.
In response to the concerns, Mr. Benjamin Marfo, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Amansie South, reassured the community of his commitment to advocate for their needs at the national level. He recognized the chief and elders' efforts and called for a collective approach to development, urging Manso Domi-Keniago natives, both local and abroad, to support the district's ongoing development projects.
Mr. Marfo emphasized that development is a shared responsibility and encouraged all stakeholders to unite in building a better future for the community's children, urging for a concerted effort to address the pressing infrastructure and educational challenges faced by the district.
