The chiefs and people of Adaklu Kodzobi in the Adaklu district will from November 4-10, celebrate their 2024 edition of their Bliza (Corn festival).According to Mr. Matthew Wormenor, chairperson of the festival planning committee, the festival was instituted in 1983 after that year's drought and famine to honour corn for being the first crop that saved them from eminent death through hunger.He stated that it was also to show the community's gratitude to God for His for a bumper corn harvest after the drought.The chairperson continued that from then on, the community agreed to make Bliza their annual festival and it was repackaged to as an occasion to unite the community and to raise funds for the community's development projects adding 'it is now one of the leading festivals in the Adaklu district.'He said this year's festival is on the theme 'peace, love and unity: bedrock for a comprehensive development.'Mr. Wormenor mentioned some activities earmarked for the weeklong celebration as cleanup exer cises, a health walk, a hike on the Adaklu mount, a youth day, football, fun and traditional games, storytelling competition and a borborbor night.He said the climax of the festival would be a fundraising durbar on Saturday, 9th November adding that it would be rounded up with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 10th November.Mr. Wormenor stated that dignitaries invited to grace the occasion included Dr. Archibald Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Kwame Agbodza, Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Mr. Walter Zuh Wogbemase, Adaklu District Chief Executive and some eminent chiefs from the Volta and other regions of the country.He said funds raised at the durbar would be used to complete their one storey information centre building.He disclosed that a festival levy of GHS 20 and GHS10 is to be paid by resident males and females respectively while all non-resident citizens are to pay GHS 50 each.He entreated all citizens of the community to participate fully in all activities earmarked for the festival.Source: Ghana News Agency
