Chief of Gomoa Potsin Urges Voters to Prioritize Character and Development in Elections.

Gomoa Potsin: Nana Ketu Adosua VII, Chief of Gomoa Potsin, has urged voters to prioritize character assessment and national development in their selection of candidates in the upcoming elections. Addressing an Inter-Party Dialogue Forum organized by the Gomoa East Metropolitan Directorate of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) at Gomoa Potsin, Nana Adosua emphasized the importance of choosing leaders who are honest, truthful, selfless, and hard-working.According to Ghana News Agency, the event, titled 'Parliamentary Candidate Dialogue,' is one of the NCCE's initiatives designed to allow parliamentary candidates to present their policies to constituents. Nana Adosua stressed the significance of championing character assessment and development to ensure that voters elect humble and development-oriented leaders. He warned against the monetization of votes and the distribution of items by politicians, which he believes could undermine the country's democratic process.The chief commended the NCCE for its efforts in educating the public on the importance of voting and for facilitating dialogue between parliamentary candidates and voters. He also called on all residents of the Gomoa East Constituency to promote peace during and after the elections.Mr. Charles Paintsil, Gomoa East Metropolitan Director of the Commission, explained that the Parliamentary Candidate Dialogue was initiated following a survey by the Commission's research department on nationwide concerns ahead of the December 7 elections. Key issues identified include health, agriculture, roads, education, the economy, water, and sanitation. Paintsil highlighted Gomoa East's reputation as a peaceful area and urged citizens, particularly the youth, to resist any incitement from politicians to engage in disruptive activities.Only one candidate, Mr. Kojo Asemanyi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), attended the event. Asemanyi, a former Member of Parliament, outlined his vision and policies to address the community's key concerns and appealed to voters to consider his past achievements in socio-economic development.Mrs. Mercy Esi Essien, Central Regional Deputy Director of the Commission, expressed optimism for a violence-free election, emphasizing the critical role of peace for the future. The event was attended by a diverse group of participants, including traditional leaders, civil society representatives, youth groups, clergy, Imams, assembly members, heads of department, security agencies, and market women.
