Central Tongu Health Directorate Enhances Clinical Staff Training on NTD Management

Central tongu: The Central Tongu District Health Directorate, with assistance from the National Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Programme and the Volta Regional Health Directorate, has conducted a two-day training aimed at equipping clinical staff with advanced skills in managing neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

According to Ghana News Agency, the training session gathered 45 health workers from various facilities within the district to enhance their abilities in early detection, case management, reporting, and community involvement, aligning with the Ghana Health Service's strategies to mitigate the impact of NTDs. The participants were provided with technical updates on onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminths, and trachoma.

The program also featured practical case studies, demonstrations on the District Health Information Management System (DHIMS2), and approaches for community-based surveillance and referrals. Mr. Baba Awuni, the District Director of Health Services, underscored the significance of vigilance, precise reporting, and community outreach in meeting national elimination targets during his closing remarks.

He also emphasized the need for ongoing refresher training, adequate logistical support, and enhanced collaboration with community volunteers. The directorate reiterated its dedication to collaborating with partners and stakeholders to expand interventions against NTDs, expressing confidence in contributing to Ghana's objectives of eradicating these diseases.
