Cameroon and Chad Forge Defense Cooperation Agreement

Yaounde: Cameroon and Chad have entered into a military cooperation agreement aimed at bolstering security along their shared border, as announced by Cameroon's Ministry of Defense on Wednesday. This agreement marks a significant step toward enhancing regional stability and security.

According to Ghana News Agency, Cameroonian Defense Minister Joseph Beti Assomo and his Chadian counterpart, Issaka Maloua Djamous, formalized the agreement on Tuesday during a signing ceremony held in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon. The new pact is designed to strengthen joint ground operations and improve the sharing of critical strategic security information between the two nations.

The cooperation deal comes as both Cameroon and Chad are grappling with escalating border security challenges, such as the threat posed by Boko Haram and issues related to illicit cross-border trafficking. The agreement is expected to facilitate a coordinated response to these challenges, thereby enhancing security along their mutual border and contributing to broader regional stability.
