The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has urged Kwesi Appiah to resign from the Sudanese head coach role or the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member. With the Black Stars of Ghana set to face Sudan in the third Group F match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Kwesi Appiah's dual roles on both sides have raised concerns of conflict of interest. The CAF, in a letter to Kwesi Appiah, stated that his multiple duties for Ghana and Sudan violate CAF statutes and the FIFA Code of Ethics, demanding him to quit from at least one post.'As you already know, Ghana and Sudan are in the same pool for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers (the competition). The two teams are set to face each other on the 10th and 14th of October 2024, and your dual roles create an apparent conflict of interest.'The situation is contrary to the CAF Statutes and FIFA Code of Ethics. For that reason and to preserve the integrity of the AFCON qualifiers, I urge you to take immediate action to resolve this conflict of interest, including, at a minimum, temporarily stepping down from one of the two roles until the conclusion of the competition,' the letter read.Furthermore, CAF asked the former Ghana international to take the required steps to resolve the matter by Tuesday, October 8, 2024.CAF further stated that Kwesi Appiah's inability to act on his multiple positions for Ghana and Sudan would result in these matters being forwarded to the CAF Disciplinary Board.Source: Ghana News Agency
