Buem: Nana Ohemaa Obeng Okrebea II, the President of the Buem State Queenmothers, along with an entourage from the state, have paid a courtesy call on Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, the Oti Regional Minister, to seek his guidance, direction, and partnership to empower women and children in the traditional area.
According to Ghana News Agency, during the meeting, Nana Okrebea and the queenmothers highlighted key challenges facing their traditional area, including limited access to improved agricultural practices, unemployment among the youth, and erosion of cultural heritage.
They proposed several initiatives, including constructing mini boreholes to support all-year-round vegetable farming, providing subsidized agricultural inputs, and promoting poultry farming. The queenmothers also requested the Minister's support in promoting their cultural heritage through inter-school cultural competitions, traditional craft training, and events that instill pride in their identity among the youth.
Additionally, they sought capacity-building training for Queen Mothers in leadership skills, communication, and conflict resolution. The Oti Regional Minister pledged his full support to the Buem State Queenmothers, assuring them of his commitment to partnering with them to address the pressing concerns affecting their traditional area.
The meeting marked the beginning of a promising collaboration between the Queenmothers and the Regional Minister's office.
