Bono YEA Exports 600 Young Workers to Romania Under ‘Work Abroad’ Programme

Sunyani: Mr Mustapha Omar Copson, the Bono Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has announced that the agency has facilitated the export of 600 young individuals from the region to Romania as part of the government's 'Work Abroad' programme. These individuals, primarily artisanal workers and those in the hospitality sector, have been integrated into the Romanian workforce.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Copson shared in an interview that the government has also secured additional opportunities in the United Arab Emirates specifically for young women. He encouraged the youth to register with the YEA to take advantage of these prospects. The 'Work Abroad' programme, he explained, involves comprehensive support from the YEA, including screening, free training, feeding, accommodation, proper documentation, and empowerment for the beneficiaries.

The programme aims to benefit those in the artisanal, hospitality, agriculture, construction, and transportation fields, offering exposure to international opportunities and experiences. Mr Copson highlighted that beneficiaries earn respectable incomes and often return home to contribute to job creation, thus showcasing the programme's potential for job creation and poverty reduction.

Additionally, the programme seeks to enhance Ghana's bilateral relations and diplomatic ties with other countries. Mr Copson mentioned that the YEA is collaborating with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) to address irregular migration in the region. Plans are underway to organize a summit to identify and tackle the underlying causes of this issue.

Mr Copson emphasized that unemployment is a significant factor driving irregular migration among the youth in the region, underscoring the importance of creating opportunities for them. He stressed the dangers associated with irregular migration and the urgent need to address the situation to prevent further risks.
