SUNYANI: The Bono Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has publicly condemned recent acts of lawlessness, including the raiding and looting of state properties in the region following the general elections. The party has strongly distanced itself from these activities and called for accountability and protection of state assets.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Charles Akowuah, the Bono Regional Communication Officer of the NDC, addressed a news conference in Sunyani, emphasizing that the party was not involved in the raids. He stressed the importance of correcting false narratives in the media that implicate the NDC in the looting. Mr. Akowuah alleged that some government appointees might be responsible for the looting and expressed concern over the situation, suggesting it was a deliberate attempt to deprive the region of vital resources.Mr. Akowuah further warned appointees of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in the region to stop any attempts to loot and misuse state pro perties as the country prepares for a political transition on January 7, 2025. He cited an incident involving the theft of iron rods intended for the construction of the Agenda III District Hospital at Odomase in Sunyani West Municipality. An ASTRA DAF vehicle, branded with the logo of CONSAR Limited and carrying tons of iron rods, was reportedly intercepted in connection with the theft.In his remarks, Mr. Akowuah called on the police to increase efforts to protect state properties and government assets. He urged NDC supporters to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. Additionally, he advised the general public to be vigilant and report any suspected misuse of public properties to the authorities.
