Bono Minister Rallies Muslims Support Towards Galamsey Fight

Sunyani: Muslims have been urged to support the fight against the emerging illegal mining activities in the Bono Region. Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboah, the Bono Regional Minister, said the region needed the support and contribution of Muslims to stem the menace, saying illegal mining threatened food and water sustainability in the region. The Regional Minister gave the advice when he addressed hundreds of Muslims at the Sunyani Jubilee Park to mark the Eid ul-Fitr celebration.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Akwaboah highlighted the effects of illegal mining, including the destruction of water sources and the environment. He warned those involved in the practice to stop, stating that offenders would be prosecuted. "The government has introduced strategies to stem the practice, and we are going to prosecute offenders," he stated. He also cautioned the youth engaged in illegal logging and lumbering to stop, as the government does to create jobs for the youth.

He mentioned the government's efforts to fulfil its election 2024 campaign promises, citing the reduction in Hajj fares and the introduction of two public holidays for the Eid celebrations as evidence. Mr Akwaboah urged the Muslims to cherish and help promote the prevailing peace of the region for development to thrive.

Alhaji Imam Baba Seidu, the Bono Regional Chief Imam, led the Muslims in a prayer for the nation and encouraged them to always show love and care for the vulnerable and needy in society.
