Biakoye: The Biakoye District Assembly in the Oti Region has distributed relief items to 87 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative was supported by the central government through the PWDs Common Fund, providing cash, refrigerators, fufu machines, and cassava machines to the beneficiaries.
Mr. Erica Opong, District Chief Executive (DCE), urged the beneficiaries to utilise the resources wisely and refrain from selling the items, as doing so would undermine their intended purpose. He mentioned that the assembly plans to monitor the use of these resources and evaluate the performance of the businesses they support.
Mr. Opong highlighted that this effort marked a significant milestone for the district, showcasing the government's commitment to supporting vulnerable groups. Beneficiaries of the relief items distribution exercise have expressed their appreciation to the government, Biakoye District Assembly, and the Social Welfare Department for their support.
Madam Jennifer Okugyeman and Madam Beauty Norvidzro, among other beneficiaries, commended the initiative, noting its potential to make a meaningful impact on their lives. The beneficiaries appreciated the Assembly's efforts in ensuring that PWDs in the district received the necessary support.
