Bawumia Files Nomination for NPP Presidential Primary, Emphasizes Election’s Significance

Accra: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 Election, has officially filed his nomination to contest the party's presidential primary, scheduled for January 31, 2026. During the filing event, held at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, Bawumia underscored the election's importance in determining the party's core values and its future direction.

According to Ghana News Agency, Bawumia highlighted that the outcome of the January 31st election will influence whether the NPP maintains its foundational principles or shifts towards policies that could increase the disparity between the affluent and the less fortunate. His filing event was marked by enthusiastic supporters clad in T-shirts emblazoned with his image, carrying placards with messages like 'Win with Bawumia' and 'It's Possible'.

The nomination and filing process involves a total cost of GH?600,000, comprising a non-refundable Nomination Fee of GH?100,000 and a Filing Fee of GH?500,000. The primary will elect the flagbearer for the NPP in the general election set for December 2028, with nominations having opened on July 29, 2025, and closing on August 28, 2025.

Dr. Bawumia, addressing his supporters, promised to work towards rebuilding the party and emphasized his commitment to acknowledging the sacrifices made by the party's grassroots. He assured that a future government under his leadership would restore jobs lost under the current administration and work to reduce the cost of living for Ghanaians. His development vision includes a constituency-based approach that enhances individual well-being.

He called on fellow aspirants to prioritize unity and focus on proposing ideas that would benefit the party and the country, rather than engaging in internal conflicts. Bawumia stressed that the real challenge lies outside the party and promised to avoid any actions that could lead to discord within the NPP.
