Balmaisha Foundation Recognizes Northern Ghana’s Women Empowerment Champions

Tamale: Some distinguished individuals from Northern Ghana have been honoured for their impactful contributions to women's empowerment and sustainable national development. The recognition took place during the second edition of the CelebrateHER Empowering Women Summit, held in Tamale, as part of this year's International Women's Day celebrations.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event acknowledged several notable figures, including Professor Adiza Sadik, Senior Lecturer at Tamale Technical University, Hajia Hawawu Alice Salifu, a retired banker and traditional leader, and Madam Emelia Ayipio Asamoah, Head of Workforce Development at Mastercard Foundation. Other honourees included Mbitawurche Alijata Haruna, a women empowerment advocate, Mr Peter Mintir Amadu, Executive Director of the Total Life Enhancement Centre, and Mr Benjamin Dimongo Kafari, Executive Director of ASERD-Ghana.

Organised by Balmaisha Foundation, an NGO focused on supporting preterm babies and their families, the summit was themed 'Empowering Women, Accelerating Change.' It gathered key stakeholders in the women empowerment sector, including traditional authorities and students from secondary institutions.

The summit was a collaborative effort with partners such as Norsaac under its Power to Youth Consortium, Tiyumba Hope Foundation, Savannah Women Integrated Development Agency (SWIDA-Ghana), LittleBig Souls, Fatimah Gomda Cares Foundation, Bright Path Foundation, and Verna Water.

Mrs Fayudatu Yakubu, Executive Director of Balmaisha Foundation, emphasized the event's purpose was to celebrate women's achievements and acknowledge male allies' contributions to women's empowerment. She called for collective action to address gender disparities and create platforms celebrating women who break barriers and drive societal change.

Hajia Alima Sagito Saeed, Executive Director of SWIDA-Ghana, highlighted the importance of supportive men in amplifying women's voices, noting that inclusive governance thrives with male allies. Mr Peter Mintir Amadu, one of the honourees, expressed gratitude to Balmaisha Foundation and its partners for recognizing their efforts in empowering women.
