Kumasi: The Ghana Audit Service (GAS) has called on the media to thoroughly analyze and accurately report on the Auditor General's Report to prevent public misinformation. Mr. Frederick Lokko, the Assistant Director of Audit and Information Officer at GAS, imparted this advice during a media training session for journalists in Kumasi.
According to Ghana News Agency, the training was organized by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), a non-governmental organization committed to promoting good governance. The two-day event was attended by selected journalists from the Ahafo, Bono, Bono East, Ashanti, and Eastern regions. The training was themed 'Building Partnership in the Fight Against Corruption,' and it included sessions on the mandate, mission, departments, and structure of the Audit Service, as well as the various types of Auditor General reports.
Mr. Lokko acknowledged the extensive nature of the Auditor General's report but emphasized that the media could utilize technology to identify irregularities, findings, and recommendations. He noted that the GAS consistently publishes its annual reports and encouraged the media to leverage technology for accurate reporting.
He praised the training initiative, highlighting its potential to empower journalists to effectively interpret the Auditor General's report, and commended the GACC for organizing the beneficial event.
