Kwarbeng: The Atiwa West District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has met with heads of religious bodies at Kwarbeng in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region. The meeting was geared towards promoting a violence-free election during the upcoming general elections on December 7.According to Ghana News Agency, the programme, themed 'Together we can build Ghana, so get involved', emphasizes the collective responsibility of citizens in shaping the country's democratic process. Inter-faith collaborations serve as a cornerstone in promoting harmony, understanding, and unity among different religious communities, laying the groundwork for peaceful and inclusive elections.Mr. Joseph Owusu, Atiwa West District Director of NCCE, highlighted the significance of inter-faith engagements in fostering peaceful elections as a Ghanaian society, hence the engagement. The NCCE, along with the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) executives, has visited some churches and mosques to discuss key topics for peaceful elections, including religious tolerance, misinformation, disinformation, money in politics, and electoral violence.Mr. Owusu emphasized that fostering dialogue and understanding among different communities is paramount to the commission and called on all to get involved. Embracing diversity and celebrating religious pluralism not only enriches the democratic process but also lays the foundation for peaceful co-existence and unity. He explained that inter-faith collaborations could play a vital role in disseminating accurate information and countering false narratives that might fuel division and conflict among citizens.He added that addressing the specter of electoral violence requires the collective efforts of all segments of society. Representatives of faith-based organizations such as the Assemblies of God church, St. Nicholas Central Mosque, Central Mosque, and Sabon Zongo mosques participated in the forum. Other participants included the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Se rvice, National Intelligence Bureau, Electoral Commission, and National Disaster Management Organisation.
