At Least 25 Dead After Drinking Tainted Alcohol in Russia

St petersburg: At least 25 people have died after drinking tainted alcohol in the vicinity of the Russian city of St Petersburg. After days of searching, authorities have located the company thought to be responsible for distributing the toxic alcohol, Russian police spokeswoman Irina Volk said on Monday. The company’s premises in the Tosno district, south-east of St Petersburg, are currently being searched.



According to Ghana News Agency, throughout September, health authorities in St Petersburg recorded fatalities linked to the consumption of adulterated alcohol. The Telegram channel Baza reported as many as 33 deaths. Several individuals were poisoned by methanol, the simplest form of alcohol, which is used as a solvent or fuel, but is life-threatening to humans.



So far, the investigation into the sellers has resulted in 11 arrests. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the incident as a ‘completely unusual occurrence,’ according to the news agency TASS.
