Juaboso: President John Dramani Mahama announced that the government is committed to paying cocoa farmers 70% of the world market price in the 2025 cocoa marketing season. This initiative aims to improve the living standards of farmers and reward their hard work.
According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama made this announcement during his nationwide 'Thank You Tour' in the Western North Region, following his 2024 presidential election victory. He emphasized the importance of providing farmers with the necessary skills and farm inputs to create jobs and strengthen the 'Feed Ghana and Made in Ghana' brands.
The President assured the chiefs and people of the Western North Region that his administration would prioritize key infrastructure projects, including the improvement of the Dadieso-Akontombra roads and the Sefwi-Bekwai-Asankragwa main road, to enhance connectivity and economic activities in the region.
In the areas of education and healthcare, President Mahama revealed plans to build a new public university in the region and equip district hospitals to meet modern standards. He also pledged to provide a new school bus for Juaboso Senior High School.
On sports and recreation, the government intends to construct six new stadia in the newly created regions, including the Western North. President Mahama acknowledged the roles of religious bodies and traditional rulers in maintaining peace and fostering local development.
Nana Kofi Ahenkan II, the Chief of Sefwi Boizan and Kontihene of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, praised the appointment of key officials from the region, including the Western North Regional Minister and Health Minister. Mr. Wilbert Petty Brentum, the Western North Regional Minister, expressed gratitude for the President's visit and pledged to diligently lead the government's progress agenda in the region.
