Kumasi: The Second Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Capacity Building Conference of the Local Government Service Association of Physical Planners (LOGSAPP) is scheduled for Friday, September 12, 2025. The event will be hosted at the Amoono-Neizer Conference Centre at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
According to Ghana News Agency, the statement was issued and signed by Mrs. Gifty Nyarko, the National Interim President of the Association. The AGM will focus on the theme 'Planning for resilient, inclusive, climate-sensitive and disaster-free communities for efficient infrastructure development and service delivery.' The conference aims to bolster local planning systems and foster efficient, inclusive, and climate-resilient infrastructure and service delivery.
The event will gather planning professionals, local government officials, civil society actors, academia, ministers of state, and representatives from development partners such as the World Bank and the German Development Cooperation. Experts in the sector are also expected to participate. The statement encourages public participation, particularly targeting urban and regional planners, engineers, students, NGOs, and the private sector with an interest in sustainable urban development and climate resilience.
The conference will address the complexities of the nation's development in the context of rapid urbanization, climate threats, and increasing infrastructure demands. The statement emphasizes the government's role in empowering the association to enhance planning capabilities, respond rapidly, and build smarter systems. It highlights that resilience involves not only surviving shocks but also ensuring inclusive services, protecting vulnerable populations, and achieving sustainable development outcomes.
In an interview with the GNA, Mr. Agyenim Boateng, a Chairperson of the Planning Committee, underscored the importance of strengthening technical capacity and fostering collaboration among various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies. He stressed the need to integrate advanced spatial data tools and climate-sensitive planning techniques to build communities resilient to climate change impacts and ensure sustainable and disaster-resilient urban growth.
Mr. Kofi Yeboah, another Chairperson of the Planning Committee, stated that the AGM would serve as a platform for knowledge sharing, innovation, and promoting inclusive planning processes. These processes prioritize vulnerable groups and gender equity in infrastructure development.
